GATE WAY EVENING COLOURS

posted Mon, 02/05/07

---Mind blowing blogrevelations lately, mostly concerning the astounding libraries of Mystery Poster and Mutant Sounds . Mystery Poster specializes in my special obsession, mid-70s underground European experimental progressive. Mystery Poster has a few albums that I already have and a few albums that I heard first on Tony Coulter's show but was not able to find anywhere online, but for the most part the blog consists of obscenely obscure artifacts, known only to the most knowledgable of collectors. I could really recommend any album on the blog, but my favorites so far have been KHA-YM , both Laurence Vanay (a mysteriously unknown female French progressive keyboard player) records, the Lourial Silvestre record , the Czech RIO prog of Combo FH, and Eskaton 's totally bizarre unreleased fourth album from 1985.
Mutant Sounds features many NWW list favorites as well as bucketloads of obscure minimal synth records. This dude puts up like 10 records a day! Overrrrloaddd!!!!

---There are dozens and dozens of R. Stevie Moore vids on youtube now. Most of them feature one uniterrupted shot of R Stevie doing something pretty simple (for example spinning on a playground roundabout) while lip-syncing. Totally DIY and sometimes really nice.. here's a few winners: 1, 2 , 3

--Beyond Repair Records , a chill tape label run by my friend Jonas in Denmark, just released my new tape called Necklace. It looks like this:

Lovingly handmade by Jonas himself.. It is fifteen minutes long and features two side-long tracks of harsh/quiet electronic despair adorned with whimsical lace. You can hear the first side, "Symbolled," at the lame Unchained myspace page. If you want one to can get one for 6 euros from Jonas, but I have some copies also (but I only take EUROS, NO DOLLARS!).

--On the other side of the loner-diy-music-video spectrum from R. Stevie's lighthearted pop tarts are the completely terrifying but also amazing computer animated music videos of one Kathleen Daniel aka Silicious. I can't really make out the whole story, but Kathleen has somehow learned to make pretty complex yet still primitive computer animations to accompany her really great psychotic R&B songs (which can actually be quite beautiful). I can't really describe them at all so you should really take a look.. but I must warn you, these videos are really, really terrifying. Clear and explicit expressions of a dark psychosis. Start with "Human" and work your way darkward to the supremely disturbing "Gone Crazy."
